Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Taking part in debating and public speaking competitions helps students learn how to share their ideas clearly and listen to others. These activities teach students to think carefully, speak confidently, and work hard to prepare their arguments. By competing, students become better at talking in front of people and thinking quickly. They also learn to respect different opinions and work as a team. Debating and public speaking help students feel more sure of themselves and get ready for school, work, and life. These skills help students become strong and confident speakers who can share their thoughts with others.
Creative and performing arts
Our choir, band and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities, including Gimbawali, a combined public school concert for students in the Auburn, Bankstown, Chullora, Girraween, Parramatta and Strathfield NSW Department of Education School networks.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Year 6 students have the opportunity to attend a 3-4 day camp in term 4. In the past we have been to Canberra and Bathurst.
PSSA and inter-school competitions
Participation in school sports and inter-school competitions at Birrong Public School plays a vital role in promoting physical health, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
Engaging in these activities encourages the development of discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of fair play, while also fostering friendships and school spirit.
Competing against peers from other schools offers valuable opportunities for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and experience the rewards of dedication and hard work.
