Uniform

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community. Learn about our uniform and where to buy it.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Students at Birrong Public School are encouraged to wear the correct school uniform every day. The wearing of the school uniform demonstrates the values of responsibility, respect and pride in the school. The school uniform policy is supported by the school P&C Association.

Our school has clear expectations for uniform which are communicated via the newsletter, posters and through morning assemblies. Teachers also discuss the uniform expectations with students.

The wearing of school uniform has several advantages for both students and parents:

I would like to thank the parents/carers who support this important policy by ensuring that their child wears the correct school uniform which includes:

Hats

The Birrong hat is the only hat to be worn – the black cap (with B) or yellow wide-brimmed hat (with school logo). Students have been choosing to wear their own coloured hat which is not school uniform.

School Shirts

The school uniform is a short-sleeved (summer) or long-sleeved (winter) gold polo shirt. Shirts without a school crest are acceptable provided they are the correct gold colour. The polo shirt can be worn each day.

Sport shirts (gold and black) should only be worn Fridays (for sport).

Shoes

Students should wear black leather closed in shoes each day (except for sport days). It is important that the black shoes are all black (white trims and markings are not uniform).

Students are to wear white or black joggers as part of the summer and winter sports uniform. Coloured or fluro joggers are not uniform.

Socks

Socks are an important item of our uniform for hygiene and safety reasons. Girls are to wear white socks and boys wear grey socks. Please note that socks should cover the student’s ankles.

Track Pants

Students should wear GREY track pants. Black track pants are not uniform. Black tights or bike pants are not uniform and should not be worn.

Jumpers and Jackets

A grey tracksuit jumper or jacket (with school crest or plain) is the only jumper or jacket to be worn. During the winter period there seems to be an increase of jumpers with hoods being worn. Jumpers with hoods are not uniform and should not be worn at school.

Students are encouraged to place their jumper/jacket in their bag when it is not being worn. Students are not to tie their jumper or jacket around their waist as this looks untidy.

Nail Polish

Nails are not to be painted with nail polish or texta/liquid paper.

Jewellery

Students are permitted to wear a watch (no smart watches that connect to internet, enable recordings/calls or take photographs). Students may wear earrings provided they are small studs or sleepers. All other jewellery is to be left at home. This includes wrist bands (with the exception of the school Gotcha prize wristband).

If you are unsure of what your child should be wearing or if you are having difficulty obtaining items of uniform, please feel free to contact me.

The school may be able to offer assistance for the purchase of a uniform if you find you are unable to fully afford one at this time. All applications are carefully considered and are kept confidential.

The staff and I appreciate you working with us to ensure our students wear correct uniform at Birrong PS.
